Dragonflies

I find dragonflies interesting insects. I just completed a new dragonfly craft using popsicle sticks and tinsel chenille strips that I have published on Squidoo. While I was preparing this dragonfly craft project, I found some great dragonfly projects from other sites to share with you. You’ll find these pictures and site addresses included. With my craft project I also included a short video on dragonflies, because I thought it would be a handy resource when using one of these projects for a class. Go to  Best Dragonfly Crafts Ideas for the directions for the popsicle stick dragonfly and for other dragonfly crafts.

SANDRA WILLARD LANDSCAPES

Sandra Willard style art was the theme of this second grade art class. Before we began the class, we watched a PowerPoint presentation showing some of Sandra’s art. Her simple, bright colored pictures showing peaceful, serene landscapes seem to beg to be imitated. After watching the PowerPoint, I assigned individual pictures for each child to imitate. When they were finished with their drawing, they used colored tissue paper, water and a brush to paint their picture. For directions and the PowerPoint presentation, go to “Sandra Willard-Like Landscapes” in the 2nd Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

ROSINA WACHTMEISTER’S CATS

Rosina Wachtmeister has such a playful view to her art that the kids love to imitate it. We had a Power Point presentation of her paintings so the kids got a real feel for her style. Then with the help of pencil and eraser, crayons and calendar picture backgrounds, they made art that closely resembled hers. Complete instructions under “Cats” in the 4th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

HE SO LOVED THE WORLD

The colored tissue paper gives this project almost a stained glass look. I used two colors of blue and two colors of green for the sample, but other combinations of tissue could be used. Then the background color would be changed to accent the colors chosen. This project, “God So Loved the World….,” is found in the 4th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

WALLPAPER HEART COLLAGE

The coordinating samples in a wallpaper samples book make this project easy. There are so many beautiful wallpapers and the stores with discontinued sample books are usually happy to give schools the books. There are usually a number of pages in a book that coordinate, so the collage can be unique even if more than one student uses pages out of the same book. I used hearts in my collage, but many different shapes can be used. One full page from the book is used for the background. Tacky glue works best to hold the pieces. This project, “Wallpaper Collage,” is in the 6th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
