“Speedy the Turtle,” is just one of our wire coat hanger projects. This project also uses wallpaper pages, colored construction paper, tape and glue as well as a wire coat hanger. This and the other coat hanger projects would be easy, fun crafts for 4-H or Scout camps. Full sized pictures, the patterns and directions for “Speedy the Turtle,” can be found in the Miscellaneous Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
WIRE COAT HANGER TURTLE
GARDEN BOUNTY
We used black or dark construction paper for our background on this project called, “Fall Bounty.” We made a light drawing with a pencil first, and then used oil pastels to color and shade the fruits and vegetables.
For directions for this project, “Fall Bounty,” look in the 6th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar
TURKEY TREAT
If you need a cute favor for a Thanksgiving party, this is both attractive and useful. We use a baby food jar and decorate it to look like a little turkey. Then we filled it with candy corn. A slightly different look would be achieved by using nuts, mints or M & M’s. A small pennant on the end of a toothpick could announce a name or say “Happy Thanksgiving,” or “Give Thanks.” The patterns and directions for the “Turkey Treat Jar” are in the Thanksgiving Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
TISSUE TURKEY TAILS
With all the colors of tissue paper, a lot of different looks can be achieved with this project. The tissue is torn and glued to the background that has been prepared by using colored chalk. A nice early elementary project for the harvest holidays. This project, “Tissue Paper Turkey,” is found under the 1st Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
TURKEY NAPKIN HOLDER
This little turkey is a very easy project that can be used as a napkin holder or in a centerpiece with autumn leaves and pine cones. I used 12″ x 12″ pieces of colored tissue paper for the centerpiece. I think it’s doable with any class. This project, “Tissue Roll Turkey,” is found in the 4th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar
THANKING TURKEY
This project helps the kids think about the many ways they have been blessed. Thanksgiving is a great holiday to celebrate with family. I guess it’s a bit of a stretch to think that a turkey would be thankful, after all he’s the main course. This is an easy project and one the 3rd grade thoroughly enjoyed. They like to add their own special touches, such as the grass and flowers. “Thankful Turkey” directions can be found in the 3rd Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
TURKEY IN GLITTER
This sparkly turkey is a bright and fun project for the 2nd grade class. It’s a good opportunity for them to practice cutting—we stress that they cut directly on the outside of the black lines. And of course using white glue and glitter is also fun. Different color combinations of paper and glitter make these an interesting display in the classroom or hall. Patterns and directions for this project, “Glitter Turkey,” are in the 2nd Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
HAPPY FALL TURKEY
We can always find puzzle pieces for our art projects. You know how sooner or later a piece or two of our favorite puzzle turns up missing. We hate to throw the whole puzzle away, but the trouble is, it’s hard to find projects to use them in. So, here’s one cute way to use them. I’ve included a body pattern with this project, but in order to get some differing expressions, the eyes, beak and wattle are made by the individual from colored scraps of red and yellow paper. “Happy Fall” is found under the 4th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
