LANDSCAPE IN GRAPHITE

While looking at works of art on the web, I came across some beautiful graphite pencil art by Debbie Adams. She has a website at http://adamsart.wordpress.com/category/drawings-2/barns/ that shows her art. Debbie Adams also paints in oil and watercolor. But, I love her pencil drawings of barns. She has some important drawing tips on this site also. I made a Power Point presentation of her works to show the 6th grade. You’ll find the directions for this project, “Barns in Graphite,” in the 6th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

FOUR SQUARE ART

For this project we chose works of art by famous artists and made it a lesson on cooperation and working toward a common goal. Four students worked together choosing the art, the medium, and the colors used. We started with two copies of the art: one was cut into four pieces, the other left as a complete work. For more pictures, and the directions for “Four Together,” go to the 6th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

WINTER OVAL SCENE

I saw this project on Artsonia a couple of years ago and thought it was beautiful. Made up it’s even more beautiful. With the Cricut and the program, Sure Cuts A Lot (Lot 2), we made the templates for this project. We laminated 12″ x 18″ construction paper and cut out a centered 8 ½” x 11 ½” oval. Keep both the solid center piece and the oval-cut-out outer frame. Make one set of templates per student. The Cricut website can be found at http://www.cricut.com/ This project, “Oval Winter Scene,” is found in the 6th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

MOONLIT SNOW

A full moon loses its intensity during an evening snow fall. Peaceful, tranquil, and possibly even chilly, are all words that could be used to describe this winter scene. I used oil pastels and white chalk on black construction paper for this project. Of course I had to use a little glitter too—-but it looks great. This project, “Moonlit Snow Flurries,” is listed in the Christmas Projects Gallery in the sidebar. Try this, it really is pretty and easy.

PENGUIN TREATS

Like snowmen, penguins are a winter project, rather than a Christmas project. These little guys are made with half pint milk cartons, which there are an abundance of at school. These go together very quickly, so if you want to use them as nut cups or place cards, you can make a bunch without too much hassle. This can be made by any class, so I’m putting it, “Penguin Treat Box,” in the Christmas Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

WINTER SNOWMEN

The first thing we want to do after the first big snow storm is to build a snowman. The 5th grade watched a Power Point showing different artists’ versions of the snowman. Google images of snowman art, makes it really easy to make a Power Point presentation. I haven’t figured out how to include music with my presentation, but I would have loved to played songs like, “Let It Snow,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and Winter Wonderland. I think the kids would have enjoyed it too. The snowmen were drawn on white paper, cut out and glued on a black winter background. This project, “Snowman Winter Scene,” is in the 5th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

GINGERBREAD MAN/SNOWMAN MITTENS

Teachers and students alike appreciate easy to make Christmas decorations for their classroom. For variety, one side of this hanging project shows a snowman and the other side is a gingerbread man—they both are stuffed in a mitten. I used crayons for this 1st grade project because crayons are easy for them to use and there are a huge variety of colors. Really makes a nice display for the classroom. “Gingerbread Man/ Snowman Hanging,” is found in the 1st Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
