I’ll be the first to admit that I know little to nothing about the video games my grandchildren seem to enjoy, but when I ran across some images of the “angry birds” I couldn’t help but see a fun project for the kids. I used colored paper to cover empty boxes and then made faces and feathers with scraps of paper. I did Google “angry birds,” and found out that in the game, Angry Birds, players take control of a flock of multi-colored birds that are attempting to retrieve eggs that have been stolen by a group of evil green pigs. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) I think that the kids that have played the game could use boxes to make the evil pigs also. It took very little time to make the samples, so I think this will make a good project for the kids to free-hand draw the eyes, beaks and feathers. As long as they give their bird an angry look (slant of the eyebrows) they are free to just use their imaginations—-the more different the birds are the better.
Supplies:
-
- A variety of sizes and shapes of boxes (Jell-O, milk carton, raisin, aspirin, etc.)
- Colored construction paper
- Scraps of colored construction paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- Tape
- Black Sharpie
Directions:
- Prepare and cover the box. Tape the box shut. Cover the box with construction paper by laying the box on its side and wrapping the paper around the center of the box. Tape or glue where the paper overlaps. Then cut the paper from the top edge of the corner to the corner of the box. Repeat on the four corners of the top. Then fold the side flaps to the center, the back flap to the front and then glue the front flap over the top. If the flaps are too long, cut them so they fit within the top part of the box. Then do the same thing with the bottom of the box.
- Make the eyes, beak, eyebrows and feathers with the scrap pieces and glue them to the box. I made the feathers about an inch longer and folded back the bottom so I’d have an area to apply glue before placing the feather on the top of the box.

Hi Maud
For the triangle Angry Bird I drew a triangle, added about an inch wide strip to the bottom to serve as a base, and then made another triangle the same size as the first one. I folded the triangles upward—the bottom is the inch wide strip—-and then glued the tips at the top together, so the triangle would stand on its own.
I hope that makes sense. Loraine
What is your triangle box?? I love your idea!
Your ideas are adorable!!!!
