I first saw these sparkling birds in the Dec. 05 issue of the Pack-O-Fun magazine. I have received written permission to share the patterns on this website. I made some of them with construction paper and think they are really cute. I’ve also made some with old greeting cards that I think are very nice also. These are so easy to make that you could make a tree full if you wanted to. When using the greeting cards I covered the top of the wings–I’ve included a pattern, and then glued the hanging loop on the outside. This is optional.
Supplies:
- Colored construction paper, cardstock or greeting cards
- Bird (Pattern)
- Bird beak (Pattern)
- Greeting card top of wing (Pattern) (optional)
- Feathers
- Black Sharpie
- White glue
- Glitter or glitter glue
- Ribbon or gold thread
- Scissors
- Tape
- Glue stick
Directions:
- Make copies of bird bodies on colored construction paper or cardstock. Or if using greeting cards, make a pattern from cardboard and trace the pattern on the greeting card.
- Cut out two bird bodies and a beak. Cut the slits in the body. On the larger section of the bird body, tape a feather about an inch down from one of the points. On the same section, tape the beak about one half inch down from the opposite point. Tape a loop of ribbon or thread in the center of the back—-where the wings fold down.
- Spread glue on the second bird body, the large section only, and place it to cover the taped area of the first section.
- Draw an eye on both sides with the black Sharpie.
- Decorate with glitter.
